We had the awesome opportunity to work with the Fairbanks 9th graders as they began one of their last units. Each student chose a book that portrayed resiliency in some way. Many students selected novels ranging from historical fiction to contemporary realism to dystopian satire, while others found nonfiction adventure stories or biographies or memoirs. All of the students are mining their books for similar themes in order to write a paper and participate in what should be a very lively discussion.
